I don't use my given name on the internet. This is a long standing practice of mine since I've been online. Instead I use my nickname. It was applied to me in high school, originally as an insult. I eventually embraced it and made it my own. Ever since, my friends have been calling me, variously: Ricky, Domingo, or Ricky Domingo. Yes, my nickname has a surname.
Some of you may have met me in "real life" in a context where I felt the need to use my given name. If you see me on the street, I respond to either name. Feel free to use either one, though know that in casual social situations I prefer to use my nickname, as my given first name is overly common for men my age.
However, in this space and all others on the public networks, I kindly request you address me as Ricky. I know this can be confusing, and I sincerely appreciate the mental effort this situation imposes on my acquaintances.
