Iggy
Iggy Pop, being Iggy Pop. Plus I'm Bored, on some show from some time.
Henry Rollins, on trying to compete with Iggy. It's long, but worth it.

Book of Holding
Amazon released the new Kindle DX on Wednesday. Here's Gizmodo's coverage. Bigger and better in all the usual ways. But check out the fifth bullet point: native PDF support. That is total win. And I would buy one(or maybe the smaller Kindle 2) if it didn't cost a significant portion of my monthly income.
With a friend's recent interest in trying out Dungeon's & Dragons since he missed out in his formative geek days, I've been looking over some of their offerings, which include PDFs. Putting these two things together, and I imagine a near perfect gaming library. All of your resource books on a searchable, bookmarkable device that includes a keyboard. That just happens to be smaller and lighter than one guide book, let alone a laptop. Sounds good to me.
Too bad Wizards of the Coast have pulled all sales of PDF versions of their product. When Hasbro's corporate lawyers rolled for learning from other industry's mistakes, they obviously rolled a 1.

Condorating the Fluviate Wifflestrop
I want to highlight something that Bitch PhD said in passing in this post.
This is a bad habit of mine too. I don't think a day goes by when Magnum doesn't stop me mid story to ask what the hell I'm talking about.
...a larger problem of mine in general): the assumption that if I know something, everyone else in the universe does, too, and that therefore there's no point in doing more than making, at best, a passing reference to whatever-it-is.

I don't hold sway to the conventional thinking on Body Mass Index. It is problematic in many different ways that I'm not going to extrapolate on now. But it is a measurement that we have to compare populations with.
Alex at Marginal Revolution posted this chart from the NYT's Economix blog(hat tip Chris S.).

Notice the two countries with the lowest population with a BMI greater than 30%? Japan and Korea. Now, the reasons for this number somewhere between a host and a ton, but I'm going to pull the lazy, layman sociologist move and say it's because of chopsticks.
So eat with with chopsticks and lose weight! Where's my book deal?

Free Parking
Last month I had to visit the Federal Building downtown. On my way back to my car, I noticed an odd parking space. Take a look at the car parked between the two red cars. Notice anything missing?

I couldn't get a good picture with my mobile, so here's the Street View of the same space. The blue car above is parked between the trees in the center of the picture. Zoom in once for the best view.
There is no meter for this space. It is not marked with any signage or curb paint to indicate that it is a no parking zone.
I doubt this space was designed as a space for large vehicles such as limousines or box trucks. I assume that the meters were installed from the cross street intersections inward, and this is just the gap left over from choosing to install the double meters.
So the question is, is this free parking? Anyone have any experience with this space?
